Types of Automation Software

Last week, we briefly talked about how companies can benefit from using Robotic Process Automation (RPA) software, in terms of its performance-enhancing features and its substantial role in businesses. In this week’s edition, we will be providing a brief walkthrough of the different categories of automation solutions available in the market, today. There are essentially three pertinent types of automation software: macro recorders, application-level macros and RPA.

Macro recorders were essentially made to be highly effective at automating tasks specific to a single application/program (e.g transferring information from a text file to a spreadsheet or continuously refreshing a web page). It is suitable for companies looking for a free/low-cost automation solution, yet they do not require a software that can handle complex scenarios nor automate outside of those applications.

At a larger scope, the application-level macros was built to extend the value of automating in one application to other applications (e.g Excel to your Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software), and it essentially multiplies the time-savings and error reduction you experience. So, how are these two different than RPA? Well, it’s actually a technological leap into the future of process automation.

RPA creates software robots which automates tasks that are better performed by computers and allowing the human workforce to focus on tasks that require human creativity, judgement, and personal interaction. This solution enables organizations the ability to automate on the front-end, making fast implementations, simplifying the user adoption process and subsequently allows companies to benefit from more value-added work from their employees.

Today, AI is infused onto RPA and this has added the cognitive intelligence capabilities to automate content-centric processes within the customer’s organization. Using a combination of the two, organizations can automate processes end-to-end e.g. take in documents using AI, parse, classify, and understand meaning or sentiment and pass on the required action to RPA.

At Accelteam, we believe that any company can operate with unprecedented productivity when they have the most intelligent and intuitive robotic process automation platform we call “The Intelligent Digital Workforce”.
